Recycle Cell Phones Because We’re Not Heavy Metal Fans

Nothing against Metallica because, you know and we know they rock. But when it comes to heavy metal, we want it in our headphones and not in our landfills or our waterways.

Cell phones are loaded with metal—copper, aluminum, iron, nickel, tin—and a whole bunch of other things that don’t biodegrade naturally. That includes mercury and lead, which are toxic to all living things. You don’t want to breathe them, you don’t want to handle them, and you certainly don’t want to swallow them.

Every time a cell phone is tossed in the trash all that stuff winds up sitting in a landfill, dumped in the ocean, or burned in a waste disposal facility. Any way you look at it, trashing your cell pollutes the environment.

Just thinking about it makes us want to bang some heads.

That’s why we recycle cell phones. And it’s why we make it easy for you to recycle cell phones, too!

Recycling 1 million cell phones recovers 35,000 pounds of copper, according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency. How much is that? About one pound for every person who saw Metallica and Guns N Roses play a double-bill at Oakland-Alameda Coliseum in 1992.

Instead of being lost forever, that metal is reclaimed and put to another use. That’s what recycling does: it makes sure nothing is wasted, it saves money, and it protects the earth.

Click on “Donate Your Cell Phone” for information on where and how to send your old cell. (Shipping is free.) Click on “Charities and Causes” to find out where we donate the proceeds from the phones you send us to recycle. If you have questions, contact us.

Rock on, and recycle cell phones.
