Donate Cellphones for Survivors! SecondWave Recycling is stoked to partnered with DoSomething.org and MTV to collect thousands of old cell phones donated by young people from around the U.S. and repurposed them…keeping them out of landfills and raising money for a critical cause, domestic violence survivor programs.
From Sept. 3, 2013 to Jan. 9, 2014, SecondWave Recycling and DoSomething.org is conducting the “Cell Phones for Survivors” collection effort. Donors from across the U.S. can create an account at www.DoSomething.org, log in and print out a pre-paid mailing label sending the phone to SecondWave’s San Diego office. After an evaluation, the wholesale value of the phone will be donated to the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) and it’s Safety Net Project. The Safety Net Project is a national effort that focuses on the intersection of technology and intimate partner abuse and works to address how it impacts the safety, privacy, accessibility and civil rights of victims. For every phone donated to SecondWave Recycling through the DoSomething.org “Cell Phones for Survivors” campaign, donors are entered to win a $4,000 grand prize scholarship.
