At this point, it seems there are more cellphones than people in Texas, so perhaps you are one of those people looking to get rid of an old phone you’ve been holding on to.
Considering the confusion around how to correctly recycle an old cellphone, it is no wonder why most people don’t.
The truth is, without understanding where and when cellphone recycling occurs, most people do not pay any attention to it. There might be a couple of old cellphones sitting in your closet and collecting dust for this very reason.
Why not put that old phone to use again? Secondwave Recycling aims to make phone recycling an easy process and created a way for you to feel good about doing it.

HOW
TEXAS CELL PHONE RECYCLING WORKS
The recycling process in Texas:
- Visit Secondwaverecycling.com
- Click on the “Donate Now” button
- Fill out the short survey
- A free shipping label is sent
- You Pack it
- You Ship it
- We clear all personal information from the phone
- The phone is recycled or refurbished
- From there we donate proceeds to various charities
- You feel great for doing the right thing!
Each cellphone will be carefully cleared of all its data, given it hasn’t already been done. From there we evaluate each cellphone to see if it can be refurbished or if it needs to be recycled. Phones are packed with precious metals, like gold and silver, which can be sold as a commodity, or they can be refurbished and resold if in good working condition.
The cellphone or its components are then sold and some of the proceeds are given to charity.

WHY SHOULD I RECYCLE MY OLD CELL PHONE?
Think about it…
There are millions upon millions of cell phones currently in use, and even more that are replaced on a yearly basis by consumers. In short, that is more phones than humans existing in this world.
Every year, on average, a single person purchases a new cellphone.
Cell phones can contain numerous toxic elements, like lead, mercury, and bromine, that can seep back into the environment when disposed of improperly. In any case, recycling your cellphones is always a better option.
If you are considering donating a used cellphone, you can also feel good about your partnership with Secondwave. Whenever we refurbish or recycle a phone, we donate proceeds to charity.
Pretty cool right?
We make recycling not only a simple and easy process, but something you can be proud of!
